Pana likes to experiment with science.  He has R&D labs specifically to cater to his desire to see advances in villainous technology.  In his own lab, one of his pet projects was nanites that would alter his DNA at will, allowing him to amplify powers, instead of negating them.  Unfortunately, since he lacked any viable test subjects for them, he was left with self-experimentation, which is noted for producing some really terrible results.  Finally, however, he was certain he'd gotten his nanites right.  He injected himself and activated the harmonic projector on his arm to activate them...before passing out. 

When he awoke, everything seemed a little bigger.  His clothes felt wrong.  When he got to a mirror, he discovered that he was now she, hair turned white and grown out long and she'd shrunk a few feet.  Her clothes even felt uncomfortable on her body, not just too big, but the wrong style.  So many inversions...But she had to find out if the most important one had taken place.  He'd called in his most loyal ally and asked her to test out her kinetic powers.  They discovered that her abilities had been enhanced to their strongest extent, with her maintaining absolute control over them.  But just like his negation powers, they were projected in a sphere and indescriminate, which called for the utmost care in using them.

Ana is different than Pana in a lot of ways.  She's a lot more daring and adventurous, enjoying leading from the front more than the back.  She prefers tight, dramatic clothing to Pana's typical formal wear and is much more of a tease.  However, she's still the same brilliant scientist and tactician that he is and once he'd figured out how to reverse the harmonics and deactivate the nanites, Pana casually switches between Pana and Ana, both forms feeling completely natural for him.
